ELECTRONIC EAR TAGS FOR SHEEPS AND GOATS

Electronic earrings of sheep and goats are now mandatory since 01/01/2010, in accordance with EU legislation.
Community provisions are binding on all Member States and all breeders have to comply. Under the provisions set by the EU, electronic eartags (electronic earrings) must be placed on all sheep and goats born on 01/01/2010 and aged 6 months or older, as well as sheep and goats of all ages transported In other countries for sale or slaughter.
The Ministry aspires with compulsory eco-labeling of sheep and goats to cope with the practice of "Greekization" and to tighten the surveillance and fight against diseases.
Sheep and goat electronic eartags have the advantage of being placed on animals of all ages without requiring any special technical knowledge.

Placing electronic earrings (sheep and goat earrings)

1) Place a simple conventional plastic eartag on the left ear with the individual animal code and
2) an electronic ear tag placed on the right ear of the animal

The function of the electronic earbud is based on modern technology, used for many years in many applications in the everyday life of the human being and is absolutely safe since it does not create any problems for the animal health and the hygiene of animal products.
The breeders concerned shall apply to the veterinary authorities concerned and, once this has been validated, shall be forwarded to the approved supplier which each breeder shall choose to issue the electronic ear tags.
